The Product Engineer role focuses on preventive quality and product development, supporting the Design Engineering and Quality Business Partner interface.
This position ensures operational excellence by combining product and quality expertise with active development, aligning with business priorities throughout the Supply Chain. The role requires a broad skill set, emphasizing preventive quality, project management, and the use of industry best practices and emerging standards to meet business needs.
Additionally, the Product Engineer develops procedures to assess and improve supplier performance, while effectively communicating with partners across the value stream.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Scope: This role provides engineering and technical expertise across various business areas, focusing on supplier development for responsible products and engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Brand Protection: Ensures product integrity by managing Product Engineering, Quality Management, Project Management, and Process Improvement, including inspecting high-priority products as needed and handling quality dispositions. Oversees and develops quality management systems across the global supply chain, working with both current and future suppliers.
Executional Excellence: Maintains seamless execution by ensuring proper handoff integrity from creative design through supply chain production.
Process Improvement: Leverages technical skills, category knowledge, and real-world experience to drive process improvements, with an emphasis on risk management, preventive quality, and data analytics.
Operational Excellence: Applies value-added competencies, such as Lean principles and data science, while utilizing industry best practices, standards, and internal systems to drive continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Business Partner Collaboration: Acts as a key point of contact for business partners in product development, quality resolution, and improvement planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Function:
- Innovation/R&D: Leads or collaborates on innovation and R&D initiatives with customers and suppliers.
- Product Development: Focuses on smart design, design for quality, and manufacturability, including risk assessments for high-priority programs to mitigate product risks.
- Product Cost Management: Manages pre-costing, cost reviews, and design-to-cost strategies to meet target costs.
- Order Execution: Ensures world-class handoff integrity from creative design to supply chain production.
- Process Implementation: Implements industry best practices and internal processes, using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Supplier Capability Development: Develops supplier capabilities (location-specific).
- Product Design Approval: Oversees 2D product design approval.
Quality Function:
- Quality Specification Setup: Defines and consistently sets quality specifications across programs, establishing standard processes for team consistency.
- Supplier Quality Development: Supports key supplier quality programs in various regions, including China and Southeast Asia.
- Standards Communication: Effectively communicates visual standards and testing protocols to suppliers and third-party labs.
- Quality Disposition: Resolves technical quality issues and handles product quality dispositions.
- Supplier Assessment: Conducts new supplier quality and capability assessments.
Project Management:
- Supports strategic projects and works with business partners and suppliers.
- Assists in supplier capability development and training.
- Contributes to supplier development and maintenance programs.
Travel Requirements:
- Domestic: Day trips to Central Java/East Java provinces.
- International: 1-3 trips per year, each lasting 3-5 days, depending on business needs.
